There were a number of letters sent home with your child on Friday including information on our sponsored event ‘MOL Mudder’, our upcoming cycle to school week, updated dates for your diary and parents’ evening information.

Dr Bike will be returning to our school and available for drop in services between 1pm and 4pm. If you have a bike that needs repaired then bring it in on Monday.

Dark is exciting! We have just started reading our class novel which will link to our topic this block – seasons, weather and energy sources! We have been thinking of adjectives to describe the dark and made lovely acrostic poems. We made collage owls that look like the main character in the novel, Plop.

We continued this week with more team building and cooperative learning activities. Our challenge was to build the tallest tower as a team, using only spaghetti and marshmallows. We had to make sure everyone took part and it was essential to use clear communication skills with each other. It was very tricky trying to build our towers but we persevered!

Can you try this at home using other items around the house? Maybe some pencils and play dough? What strategy works best to make the structure strong? How tall is it? Remember – it must be able to stand alone without support!

We have been working as a team this week during our PE lessons. We had one of our moving up days to welcome new children to our class so decided to get everyone talking and working together through games. One of the games we played was called “Cross the River” and involved two teams using only 4 small mats to get their team across from one side of the hall to the other without falling into the river. The teams worked very well together and used excellent communication skills and problem solving strategies.

We have been learning about which season our birthday month is in this week. We created beautiful pictures showing the different seasons of the year that we were born in.

We were very lucky to get a visit from a theatre production company who performed their version of The Jungle Book. We really loved the show and look forward to writing our wanted poster this week for our favourite Jungle Book character. We will be using lots of adjectives to describe them and have had lots of practise using adjectives this week.

Thank you to those of you that were able to join us for the open afternoon on Friday. I hope you enjoyed seeing your child’s class and doing some activities with them.
