Tabata with Mrs Tulloch

P3A and P3B joined up for gym today and enjoyed a fun and fast Tabata session! We worked in groups of around 7 children and moved around 8 activity stations. We had to work for 40 seconds at each station then move on to the next during our 20 second rest. We did activities such as burpees, shuttle runs, squats and wall balls. We did this for all 8 stations and had a 1 minute break…and did it all again…and again!

It was so lovely to see every single child trying their hardest and smiling while doing their exercise. A massive pat on the back to each of you. Mrs Mateer and I were very proud of you all – especially since this was our first time trying Tabata as a whole year group in one room!

We look forward to doing it again next week!

Our Learning

We have been working on division this week and last. We have been focusing on dividing by 2 and 10 and will move onto dividing by 5. We have been learning lots of helpful strategies and are remembering to share equally when we divide.

We are enjoying learning more about The Titanic and have been doing cooperative learning activities to decide if information about the Titanic is true, false or can’t tell. We will use our work to help us with research on the chrome books. We are really looking forward to this.

In writing, we wrote stories about a Robot Friend and were able to create some wonderful characters and gave them jobs to do to help us like a robot friend that does our homework or makes our bed!

We were working on balance, jumping and landing safely in gym. We really enjoyed gymnastics today and look forward to more of it in the upcoming weeks.

Titanic Topic

We have started our block of learning which is the Titanic. We have already been finding out what knowledge we have of the ‘unsinkable ship’ through cooperative learning and graffiti boards. We then created a collage picture of what we think the Titanic looked like. We did these in our table groups and worked very well as a team, taking turns, talking about our ideas and all contributing and helping in some way. Great work P3A.

We have started reading the novel ‘The Unsinkable Ship’, which follows the fictional experiences of children that are travelling on the Titanic. We used this as our writing stimulus to write our very own Titanic adventures, aiming to use wow words used in the novel in our writing too. We peer assessed these and gave each other valuable feedback on what we liked about each other’s stories and gave next steps.

Term 3

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. Thank you for the very generous Christmas gifts – I sent home thank you notes yesterday.

We’ve started a new year and are raring to go in P3A. We started the term well with a fun and very physical game of bench ball!

We have been doing more measurement and have been measuring the weight of different items in kilograms and half kilograms. We have also been making predictions about how heavy an object is and checking this and also sorting objects in order from lightest to heaviest. We have been doing lots of fun active learning activities already this week!

Christmas Party

A wee reminder that P3A and P3B have their Christmas party tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday 18th).

You can send your child dressed in their party outfit or send their outfit in with them to change into before their party begins.

Some of you may also choose to take your child home for lunch. If so, make sure they know their arrangements before coming into school.

Celebrating Success

Today, we celebrated success in our class by having hot chocolate with the teacher. The table with the most table points were invited to have hot chocolate with Mrs Mackay and Mrs Tulloch. How lovely to warm ourselves up on such a cold day!

We had a celebration assembly and celebrated individual and class success across the school.

Do You Want to Bake a Snowman?

Today we explored and learned about measurement and weight by making festive biscuits. We baked biscuits and then decorated them carefully to create melted snowmen. We think they look like Olaf from Frozen!

We joined up with P3B in the afternoon for Kodaly, our music session with Mr Thomson. It was very fun learning about the beats to the music and ta ta-te ta!
